PUC Results: Girls fare better

MANGALORE: The girl students have fared better in the second PUC examinations held in April. The results that were declared on Saturday shows that 10,330 girl students out of 12,777 those who wrote have passed the examinations. In boys section 11,822 have attended the examinations out of which only 8566 have passed. The percentage pass among the girl students is 80.79 percent while among the boy students the percentage has leveled off at 72.39 percent. Totally 24,630 students had written the examinations from the district out of which 18,896 students have passed with a percentage of 76.72 percent according to the result sheet. Dakshina Kannada district has stood first in the state.

Urban students have posted more pass percentage than their rural counterparts. A total of 14,241 urban students had taken the examinations out of which 11,613 have passed with a percentage of 81.55 percent. In rural section 10,389 students had taken the examination out of which only 7,283 students have passed with a percentage of 70.1.

All three top positions in science, arts and commerce have gone to the girl students. Yashwitha of Arts section in the St Annes College has passed with 535 marks, U. Shama of St Agnes college has passed with a maximum of 574 marks in Commerce section, and Ranjita Shetty of Surathkal Govinda Das college has passed with 582 marks in Science section.

Durgamba PU College in Puttur taluk has scored 100 percent results, all 40 students who have taken the examinations from this college have passed with distinction.

Udupi records 76%

Udupi district stood at second place in the state with total pass percentage of 76.20. According to the results published by the board, out of total 14, 781 students who appeared for the exam 11, 263 have passed. Total number of boys who appeared for the exam was 7,179 out of which 5,123 have passed while among girls out of 7,602 who appeared for the exam 6,140 have passed.

In Udupi, Rural students have posted more pass percentage than their urban counterparts. In Urban section, out of total 6,758 students who appeared for the exam, 5035 have passed(74.05%) while in Rural section out of 8023 students, 6,228 have passed(77.63%).

Brahmavar Govt PU College has recorded 100% results followed by Poorna Prajna college on second place with 99.65%, Dr. N.S.A.M. PU college Nitte scored 99.20% and SVT college at Karkala scored 95,97%.
