CBSE results out; pass percentage at 80.91 per cent

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Friday announced the results for Class XII examinations held in March, registering an overall pass percentage of 80.91 per cent.

This was a marginal increase from last year's 80.64 per cent, CBSE Chairman Ashok Ganguly told reporters here announcing the all India results.

Out of the six exam regions, Chennai topped the list of pass percentage with 91.39 per cent followed by Ajmer (85.18 per cent), Delhi (83.69), Panchkula (80.80), Allahabad (75.23) and Guwahati (63.24).

Except for Allahabad and Panchkula regions which recorded a dip in their pass percentage, all other regions improved their results this year compared to last year.

Girls outshone boys yet again in the examinations, recording an impressive pass percentage of 85.44 per cent. Boys were seven per cent down with a pass percentage of 77.59 percentage.

A total of 384 students, including 193 girls, scored over 95 per cent marks in the examinations while 8,252 students managed to cross the 90 per cent mark. Among those who scored over 90 per cent marks, girls were 4,190.

There was an increase of 0.27 per cent in the number of candidates who registered for the examinations. A total of 5,49,344 candidates registered for the exams.

The CBSE had announced the results for three of the six regions -- Ajmer, Panchkula and Chennai -- on Wednesday while the remaining were declared on Friday. (hindustantimes.com)

CET results out tomorrow

The Common Entrance Test 2008 results will be announced on saturday at 11:00am on the KEA premises. It will be published in all the 218 exam centres after 1:00pm on saturday. Result will be available online and over phone from 12 noon the same day.

Karnataka tops CBSE in South

BANGALORE: The principals and students of CBSE schools in Bangalore were a jubilant lot on Wednesday. And why not, with Karnataka topping the pass percentage among the four southern states — Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala. But in the Chennai region, Karnataka stands third with Puducherry topping the list and Goa standing second.

In the Class XII CBSE results announced on Wednesday, Karnataka outdid the other three southern states with 96.57%. This was closely followed by Tamil Nadu at 96.19%. Kerala trailed third with 93.30% followed by AP with 88.26%.

The CBSE Chennai region comprises Maharashtra, Goa, Daman & Diu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep. Puducherry emerged as the dark horse in this year’s CBSE results by outshining all the other states in the Chennai region. The state had 176 (regular) students who appeared for the exam. Its overall pass percentage is 98.30%. Close on Puducherry’s heels is Goa with 97.61%. It had 293 (regular) students who appeared for the exams.

N Nagaraju, joint secretary, regional office, CBSE, told TOI that the overall pass percentage of regular students in Chennai region is 92.84%. The overall pass percentage of students who took the exam including private candidates is 90.71%.
