Sounds on the Square concerts continue June 13,14

The Urban Districts Alliance presents the second week of its free concert series, “Sounds on the Square,” featuring local musical groups performing from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 13 and 14, at Park Central Square. Listeners are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or have dinner on the square in one of three outdoor cafes.
Friday’s concert features Electra 225 followed by Blue Plate Special.
Electra 225 is a group of four longtime Springfield area musicians playing a variety of classic rock and original material. The band is composed of Ken Hopper on guitar and vocals, Bill Penninger on bass, Del Thompson on drums, and Steven Thomas on guitar, keyboards and vocals. Electra 225 plays songs from artists such as The Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Tom Petty and John Mellencamp in addition to a number of original tunes from Ken Hopper’s recently released CD, Eclecticity.
Blue Plate Special features Vern Morgan (lead guitar/vocals), Cliff Jacobs, (guitar/vocals/harmonica), Lynn Barbour, (drums/vocals), Pete Stevens, (percussion/keyboard/vocals) and Jimmy Seiber (bass guitar). Blue Plate Special has been heavily influenced by various blues artists.
Saturday, the band Greene Coast performs, followed by local favorite, Eddie Gumucio. Greene Coast has a one-of-a-kind style.
Eddie Gumucio has traveled to four continents and 35 countries and is a bi-lingual singer/songwriter. Now in his twelfth year as a recording and touring artist, he continues his eclectic mix of indie pop with collaborators Tim Datema, Josh Nimmo and Chris Alsep. His latest release, Skin & Bones, is available at www.eddiegumucio.fuzz.com/music. His previous release garnered extensive airplay on over 150 college and community radio stations coast to coast.
The concert series continues June 20, and 21.
